In 2003, Bush Heritage Australia (then known as Australian Bush Heritage Fund) purchased Whitewells Station in Western Australia to protect its outstanding remnant woodlands and the native animals and plants that depend on them.

The property was renamed Charles Darwin Reserve and is now managed to protect its biodiversity for the long term.

The following pages, mostly written and compiled by Charlie Nicholson with contributions from many other people, trace the human history of the area of this reserve. This is a work in progress and will continue to expand as more information and personal stories emerge.

Please enjoy the following information and images of the Charles Darwin Reserve. They illustrate the changing attitudes and perceptions of this country.

Lotterywest has generously funded the production of this community history.
